 | We know, you don't want a mortgage... you want a home! Starting April 19, all new borrowers will have to meet standards for five-year, fixed-rate mortgages even if they're seeking a shorter or variable-rate loan.
Also, the government is lowering the maximum amount Canadians can withdraw when refinancing to 90% of the value of their homes, from the current 95%, and requiring a 20% down payment for government-backed mortgage insurance on investment properties.
